READING
We are finishing up the “Sunshine and Raindrops” theme and the children have learned to recognize and write capital and lower case forms of the letters l, k, and qu and identify the sounds these letters represent. The new high frequency words are “here” and “is”. We’ve been sounding out lots and lots of words that use the short a and short i sounds.

MATH
We used the Class Number Grid as a math tool this week. We identified and located numbers on the grid. We discovered number patterns on the grid and used the number grid to add and subtract. We finished the week by playing Bingo with numbers up to 100!

SOCIAL STUDIES
“This is our Country” is the name of our current social studies theme. The students located our state on a United States map and identified land and water features in or near our state. We made a U.S. map puzzle to practice finding our state. Last week we marked each state that the K-A friends sent a valentine to.
We learned to recognized national symbols such as the flag, the bald eagle, and the statue of liberty.
